Louis Vuitton's history begins with the designers birth on August 4, 1821.  Vuitton's mother passed away when he was 10 years old.  At 13 years old Vuitton began his journey to Paris.  It took him two years by feet.  He stopped to perform numerous jobs along the way to support himself.  

Once he arrived in Paris Louis Vuitton found work as an apprentice at a box-making and packing workshop and eventually became the city's best.  His reputation continued to grow leading Vuitton to open his own box-making and packing shop in Paris. 

Louis Vuitton became well-known for his innovations including using canvas and glue for the casing rather than hide which could impregnate the contents of pieces with its smell.
