5 Reasons the Chanel 2.55 Is One of the Greatest Handbags of All Time

ONE
Historical Outlook
In the 1920s, Coco Chanel decided to design a handbag that freed up her hands.  She was inspired by the straps on soldiers' bags when she added the thin straps.  When Chanel returned to the fashion industry in 1954, she decided to update the design of the handbag.  She called the updated design the 2.55 because she created it in February of 1955.

TWO
Quilted Leather
The quilted leather was added to the 2.55 because Chanel loved to ride horses when she was younger.  This was a time when quilted material was only worn by boys working in stables.

THREE
50th Anniversary Edition Grey 2.55
In 2005, Chanel relaunched this classic edition of the 2.55 handbag.  The bag was made of grey quilted calfskin and included the original burgundy lining which represented the color of Coco Chanel's Catholic school uniforms.
